introduction tour dates sound check

Detroit music is listened to and celebrated around the city and around the world. The quality of Detroit’s musicians and their sounds is second perhaps only to the diversity of their styles and genres. This city produces its own brand of Smooth Jazz, a unique soul-infused blend of Jazz and R&B.

Diane Reeves and Gentry Shelby.

As leader of shelbybrown ltd., Gentry Shelby refreshed his collaborations, weaving his band through the elements of Jazz, R&B, and Gospel.

Shelby’s new CD, No Boundaries was released on his own Independent label S.2 Tha B. Records. Here Shelby is polished and is definitely worthy of an audience.

Shelby’s saxophone complements his newest collection of Smooth Jazz instrumentals and vocals. Shelby who plays Alto & Soprano saxophones shares a passion for music and a history of listening and playing since childhood. When asked about his new venture and how he put it all together, Shelby speaks of his friends and how they help and respect what underlies and supports his music. Shelby says of his friends Damon Warmack, Alex Goss, Demetrius Nabors, Ron Otis, Shinda Ewell, Chanda Long, Lin Rountree, Tim & Brian Bowman, & Randy Scott, these are good genuine people, they helped me to collaborate, and most importantly they show me how to be open minded when exploring new territories in music.

Gentry Shelby and James Carter.

No Boundaries, written by Gentry Shelby and Damon Warmack, covers the spectrum of contemporary Jazz. Some stand out tracks are Kendhal which is completed with vocals by Chanda Long, a local recording Artist and Hey Slim a song written for Shelby’s late Grandmother, yet it contains the expressive, emotional, inspirational and self described “Spirit Lead Soul” that Shelby puts into each and every note, playing each song as if it was his last.

This "Sprit Lead Soul" comes naturally for Shelby whose roots run deep into Detroit’s religious community and musical heritage. Along with being an active member of his church, Shelby has performed often for Churches and charity events throughout Metro Detroit such as The Black United Fund, The Literacy Volunteers of America, & The United Negro College Fund. Shelby has also been seen performing at some of the city’s notable Jazz Clubs including Floods, Bakers Keyboard Lounge, The Limit Cocktail Lounge, & The Magnolia Key Club.

Gentry Shelby and James Moody.

Listen for the Smooth Jazz sounds of shelbybrown ltd. And the new CD entitled No Boundaries, and you will again be reminded of Detroit’s great musical legacy. No Boundaries on S. 2 Tha B. Records captures the rich tapestry of Motown’s music.
